About

Milan Castro is a Latina director based in Yonkers, New York. Her heart lies with work that explores the human condition through surrealist and immersive theatre.

Born in Washington Heights and raised in Brooklyn, I was always fascinated by art in all its forms. I found a love of theater in acting but always thought more conceptually about the work, rather than my portrayal and practice. Training within SUNY Purchase College’s Directing Concentration uncovered my true passion which would ultimately be Directing.

I strive to direct pieces that make audiences question and center perspectives that may or may not align with their own. Part of what makes theatre necessary is the ability to invert our way of thinking and allow empathy to help audiences explore experiences apart from their own. Utilizing collaboration during my process continues to further this practice by blending my insight with my actors’ and team’s craft into one collective creation. To further test the boundaries of perspective, I tap into themes of surrealism and the abstract within my work and often weave immersive to further etch this suspension of disbelief that just might allow room for people to give a new perspective a try.
